EYEMAGE: The Consultative Sales Manual for Prescription Eyewear and Visual Solutions

I am pleased to present my third manual, dedicated to consultative sales in optics. The Eyemage protocol transforms the role of the optician from a simple merchant to a vision and image consultant.

I am pleased to present my third manual, The Consultative Sales Manual for Prescription Eyewear and Visual Solutions, published by UnPlanned Srls - Asti in the Selling in Optics Collection (ISBN 978-88-943691-5-1). This text is deeply complementary to the previous The Charismatic Optical Center (2023) and The Charismatic Optometrist (2024), and focuses on the last moment of truth in optical sales: the direct, one-to-one, in-person relationship between the potential customer and the sales assistant.

For years I have studied how the ability to establish a positive and effective personal relationship can make or break any marketing effort. This manual was born from the need to reorganize ideas and provide a guided path, while maintaining an "UnPlanned" style: a formula that draws a direction but does not rigidly bind to the path. I have never believed in infallible methods that claim to catalog people and make relationships reproducible.

The Heart of Consultative Selling: Beyond the Schema

The Eyemage protocol, the heart of this manual, is a revolution in optical sales. Its mission is to elevate the role of the optician from a simple merchant to a vision and image consultant, capable of interpreting the customer's needs not only technically, but also aesthetically and emotionally.

You will not find technical instructions in this manual on how glasses should fit well, but rather a journey that connects souls, builds stories and leads to the key to every true sale: the customer's heart.

The Eyemage protocol is based on precise values and on overcoming merely transactional selling, focused on economic exchange. We move to consultative selling, based on listening and building a relationship of trust, where the seller acts as a guide.

The Pillars of the Eyemage Method

  1. The Customer is the Hero of the Story, Always: Consultative selling sees the customer as the protagonist who enters the store with an obstacle to overcome (a visual problem, an aesthetic desire, an identity crisis related to aging). The optician-salesperson acts as the Mentor, and the glasses become the Magic Object that allows the hero to evolve and improve their life.
  2. Sell to the Heart, Explain to the Mind: Neuroscience confirms that 80% of purchasing decisions occur on an emotional basis (System 1), while rationality intervenes subsequently to justify the choice (System 2). The Eyemage seller must know how to activate the customer's emotional response (for example, leveraging self-esteem or identity), and then reinforce that choice with sustainable motivations (technical data, quality, long-term benefits).
  3. 3D Performance: Success in sales depends on the balance between three fundamental elements: Competence (the WHAT, product knowledge), Communication (the HOW, know-how, empathy and language) and Motivation (the WHY, inner strength). Analogical communication, i.e. non-verbal language, is crucial for tuning into the customer's emotions.

The Eyemage Protocol Step by Step: High-Ticket Opticians

The protocol is designed to become High-Ticket Opticians. This does not simply mean selling expensive products, but offering visual solutions with high perceived value, moving away from price competition.

The method is divided into three phases, ideally to be conducted in an appointment session, perceived as a professional consultation:

  • Phase 1: Observation and Active Listening (You are important to me): Break the ice with small talk to create trust. Go beyond standard requests to understand the customer's lifestyle, real and latent needs, and expectations.
  • Phase 2: Analysis and Personalization (I want to know you better): Integrate aesthetic analysis (without rigidly relying on color analysis or standard rules) with the customer's personality and specific visual needs. The proposal must be consistent with the person's character and expressive desire.
  • Phase 3: Presentation and Engagement (I offer you your magic objects): The goal is to propose a visual wardrobe or multiple equipment, eliminating the limiting concept of "second pair of glasses". Each solution must be presented as an integral part of the customer's image and lifestyle, transforming the glasses into a talisman capable of solving not only the functional problem but also the person's deep desire (security, authority, etc.). Final proposals should be a maximum of four and complementary to each other.

This manual is a practical guide and an invitation to transform the act of choosing glasses into a memorable and meaningful experience. Happy reading and good work!

The manual is available at the cost of €39.00
