Choosing Your Assortment

A coherent assortment tells people who you are before any words do. Being original doesn't mean being strange: it means having something to say and knowing how to say it well.

Your choice of assortment is one of the things that tells people who you are, faster than almost anything else. A coherent, legible assortment says immediately what your business model is, what your values are, and lets people understand within seconds whether yours is the right optical store for them.

Having an original assortment doesn't mean pushing into extreme design choices that require specific expertise and speak to very few. You can offer an interesting product, considered in its details, with a personality of its own, and at the same time wearable and of quality.

Because the point isn't to be strange. It's to have something to say, and to know how to say it well. A store's originality doesn't come from the most unusual frames it can find, but from the coherence with which it chooses them — from the fact that, put together, those frames tell a position, not just a catalogue.
